Children in Need
Thank you to our Year 6 School Council for selling Pudsey pens and badges - an amazing £195.00 has been raised for Children in Need.
The Pond Development
It's all getting really exciting now - the pond has been dug!
A safety fence, with a locked gate, has been built and the slabs are being laid over the half term holiday.
We have plants, safety signs, a rockery - we are getting so excited!
Some photos below for a sneak preview.
Derbyshire Tree Scheme
The Derbyshire Tree Scheme are offering free trees to local community groups.
The species of trees available are: Cherry plum, Downy birch, Goat willow and Guelder rose.
We researched each type of tree – Would it blossom? What creatures would it attract? How much looking after would it need? How big would it grow? We then each voted for our two favourites.
We applied and asked for a Cherry Plum and a Guelder Rose for our pond area.
Our trees will be collected from Rosliston Forestry Centre in November - well done School Council!
Harvest
Please could harvest donations be brought into school on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd October.
The school council have decided to donate this year’s harvest collection to a food bank in Swadlincote. Many families in our local area access food donations from here.
The School Council have spoken to their classes about harvest donations and have displayed posters around school.
Suggested donations - dried pasta, rice, toiletries, tined food, cereal.
Trees
Thank you so much to Jack from Taylor - Day Tree Services.
The team were in school completing work and the school council asked if they would be able to cut back some of the trees surrounding the pond area.
We explained to Jack that our budget was tight to get the pond area finished and he agreed to complete the work free of charge!
It has made such a difference and now the light will reach our pond area to attract wildlife and plant growth.
We said a huge thank you!
